PhotoSat offers a geological alteration mapping package produced using WorldView-3 high resolution satellite photos, with about 16 times the resolution of ASTER alteration mapping. In areas of sparse vegetation, 16 band WorldView-3 photos are used to map hydrous silica, clay, ferric and hydrous ferric iron oxide, micas, ammonium feldspar, carbonate and propylitic minerals for epithermal gold and silver and porphyry copper exploration.

Worldview-3 ALTERATION mineral mapping

Depending on the presence of the alteration minerals and photo visible outcrops the PhotoSat WV3 alteration mineral mapping will include the following:

Hydrous silica: includes opal and chalcedony    SiO2•n(H2O)

Hydroxyl alteration – intensity: minerals with OH bonds such as alunite, sericite, kaolinite, dickite, illite, and montmorillonite

Propylitic alteration: includes carbonate, epidote, and chlorite

Calcite:   CaCO3

Clay minerals

Alunite               (Na,K)Al3(SO4)2(OH)6

Kaolinite             Al2Si2O5(OH)4

Micas

Sericite: Sericite is hydrothermal alteration of orthoclase or plagioclase feldspars.  It may consist of each or a combination of, Muscovite, Illite, and Paragonite.  WV3 cannot differentiate between these micas.

ADVANCED PRODUCTS:

Spectral matching: Spectral matching uses the spectral signature of a pixel to look for other similar pixels. If there is an outcrop of significant interest, we can analyze the spectral signature of a pixel related to that outcrop and search for other pixels in the WorldView-3 scene that are similar.
