Mine Leach Pad & Ore Stockpile Volumes
Measuring the volumes of valuable ore stored on mine sites
A significant portion of the value of many mines is contained in ore that has been mined and not yet processed, stored in stockpiles and leach pads. Ore stockpiles and leach pads are usually built from level or surveyed bases so their volumes can be calculated from a single satellite topographic map of the stockpile surface. PhotoSat’s processing system is optimized to calculate these volumes.
Measuring incremental volume changes
Measurement of incremental changes to the leach pad and ore stockpile volumes require multiple satellite topographic surfaces. In this case the volume changes are measured between two stereo satellite photo dates, to an accuracy of approximately 20cm in thickness or 2,000 cubic meters per hectare (1,050 cubic yards per acre).

Our unique data processing methods produce the most accurate topographic data from satellite photos with accuracies better than 20cm in elevation. We have delivered over 1000 projects globally.
PhotoSat’s satellite surveying package includes an engineering grade 1m topographic grid, 50cm or 1m contours, and a 50cm satellite ortho photo. To map the volume changes, the data package is produced two or more times using different satellite photo dates.
